Meaning: Greek "lamuros" or "avarice"

A man-eating monster that tempts its victims with its striking beauty. It has the upper body of a woman, and the lower body of a serpent. Once the lover of Zeus, all of Lamia's children were stolen away by Hera in a fit of jealousy. Lamia is thought to be a Greek incarnation of the demon Lillith, who is sometimes thought to have been Adam's wife prior to eve in Biblical times.
