The story of Leviathan is told in many lands, with the details differing slightly in each telling. Scholars believe the mythos was created in Syria in a story which tells of a sea serpent with seven heads so massive that they could block out the sun and moon, causing prolonged solar and lunar eclipses. A similar creature is described in the Old Testiment as an adversary of God which causes great pain and suffering to the human race. It was eventually smited by God's own hand.
