Meaning: Greek "Seirazein" meaning "binding"

The siren is a monster disguised as a beautiful woman that enthralls men with her singing. In ancient Greece, it was known as a creature with the head of a woman and the body of a sea monster. As time passed, it took on a more humanlike appearance. Sirens reside on islands near major shipping lanes, hoping to enthrall the crews of passing boats. Because of this, islands where sirens have resided are typically piled high with the bones of deceased ship crews.
